Since 1900 · Four Generations
Our Story
Some families pass down recipes. Ours passed down a love for feeding people — from a produce stand in 1900 to three neighborhood markets today.
Mike Charley — A Produce Stand and a Dream
In 1900, Mike Charley immigrated to the United States from Syria without speaking a word of English. He started selling produce from a stand — and through sheer work and grit, grew that stand into a food distribution center serving western Pennsylvania.

Jim, Bill & Fred — Charley Brothers
Mike's sons Jim, Bill, and Fred Charley grew the distribution center into what became known as Charley Brothers — supplying all of the local grocery stores in Westmoreland County and the surrounding areas. If you shopped at a local grocer back then, chances are the Charley family helped stock those shelves.

Ray Charley — The Family Goes Retail
Ray Charley, Jim's son, purchased the family's first retail operation — the Westmoreland Mall Shop 'n Save — in 1983, and grew it to three stores. A passionate retailer through and through, Ray loves people and the process of selling food, and it shows in every aisle.

Mike & Tom Charley — Continuing the Legacy
Today, Mike and Tom Charley run the family's three Shop 'n Save stores in Greensburg and Murrysville, working every day to continue the legacy that started with a produce stand 126 years ago — still locally owned, still family operated, still Always Fresh.
